Recommendations for Industry
In an update on mask usage, CDC states that it does not recommend the use of gaiters or face shields for COVID-19 protection. Although evaluation of these face covers is ongoing, their effectiveness is unknown at this time.

TAG agrees with the assessment; because gaiters are generally a single, thin layer and shields do not fit snugly against the nose and mouth, there may be a greater potential for droplet dispersal.
CDC recommends that masks:

-
Have two or more layers of fabric.
-
Be washable and breathable.
-
Be worn so as to completely cover your nose and mouth.
-
Fit snugly against the sides of the face without gaps.
