Recommendations for Industry
Follow the Science

With some areas of the world now stating that “residues of COVID-19” have been found in meat products, the question of the virus being transmitted through food has again been raised. TAG has not seen any science in support of claims that the virus is spread via food, and we (along with FDA, CDC, and WHO) continue to state that there is currently no evidence that the SARS-CoV-2 virus can spread to people through food.

Unfortunately, media coverage of these claims (including their discovery on meat) will likely continue to raise concerns and questions from consumers. Therefore, it is important that food companies remain current and updated on such issues in case they receive questions from customers throughout the supply chain.

As the pandemic has continued, we continue to track the evolving science and public perceptions around risk. What we do know, though, is that preventive measures do work! TAG’s best recommendation, for this Monday, is to keep all your protections in place, while keeping an eye on the science, including keeping current with our COVID-19 newsletters and our one-on-one client consultations.
Outbreak Updates
As of October 19, 2020 (14:11 ET), there are over > 40,240,580 cases (>1,115,409 deaths) worldwide.

Due to the increasing number of cases in the United States, TAG will move from reporting counts per country to focus on the United States, please see here for the data. For further information regarding worldwide numbers, please refer to John Hopkin University’s aggregate map.
