’Same ol’, Same ol’ – with Continuous Change – 9/25/2020

After seven months of the COVID-19, it can seem that there is, now, very little that changes day to day. But in actuality – to misquote an old adage – the more things stay the same, the more they change.

In relation to the coronavirus, that change relates to the ever-evolving variables of both the pandemic and life itself. There are so many things that impact the spread of the virus and potential for infection, and the analysis of the resulting risk.

In September alone, we have the cooling weather and start of flu season; increased indoor gatherings; children going back to school; universities starting up – and sending students home; fall sports bringing participants much closer than 6 feet – without masks; and people gradually expanding their social circles.

Not only must all this be taken into consideration when analyzing risk, but one must also consider how the raw numbers of cases and spread are compiled, dissected, and parsed; the scope and availability of testing in various areas and situations; the eventual arrival of vaccines – and whether they will, in fact, be effective, safe, and available in adequate quantities.

While we continue to deal with what has become much of the same old thing, this vast range of variables will only continue to evolve and change, supporting our new old adage that the more things stay the same, the more they change.

With all that, however, what does not change is TAG’s oft-repeated recommendation to Stay the Course. (We may, in fact, need to make that our new “TAG”line!) Keep doing what you’ve been doing to protect your workers and your business – but also be constantly on alert to pivot as situations change.

With all this, there is a significant need for judgment and balance as we stive to protect both our employees and our business. So, as you deal with all the continued sameness and change, remember that TAG is here to help you understand how to make the right choices for you.

Stay the Course … and have a great weekend!
