TAG Analysis: State-by-State Risk and Recommendations.

With most states reopened to at least some level, we see variability in COVID-19 cases from state to state. As you view different information from various media sources, it can be difficult to distinguish the reality from the hype. In an effort to cut through the mass influx of numbers, TAG has conducted and compiled its analysis of U.S. data from reliable and scientific sources; TAG is developing and regularly updating analytics on which we base our recommendations.

The graphic below illustrates the current status of positive test rates in the U.S. for the week of June 8 to 14, 2020.  States like Arizona and South Carolina have rates greater than 80 positive tests per 100,000 population; they are reporting positive test rates of 16 and 43%, respectively.  This high rate of positive tests suggests that testing is inadequate in these states and that the current infection rate is high enough that additional positive cases are being missed.  Conversely, states like New York and Colorado have a relatively low number of positive tests per 100,000 population; their positive test rates are low, less than 4%.

As this diagram shows, while COVID-19 is trending downwards in some states and upwards in others, it is ultimately continuing to persist everywhere. Thus, businesses must maintain a high level of vigilance as states continue to open. Don’t let down your guard; don’t let up on the protections, especially where the upward trends exist. Pay close attention to employee education, including letting them know that what they do on the weekend can negatively affect everyone else in the facility next week.

The fluctuating trends also show another point that we’ve discussed before: what we do this week is not the same as what we did last week; it will also not be the same as what we will do next week!

We will continue to present these trends and state information, to help you keep your employees safe wherever you, or they, reside or travel. Keep an eye on TAG’s daily update for our continued coverage of state-by-state risk and recommendations
