  • The CDC has developed a COVID-19 Social Media Toolkit to help “localize efforts in responding to the virus that causes COVID-19. This toolkit provides messages and graphics to help:(a) Ensure current, correct messaging from a trusted source; (b) Create collateral materials; (c) Share resources. All graphics and messaging can be used on social media. Download the toolkit, here.

  • In time for Factual Friday, the World Health Organization has put out graphical social media messages and “Myth Busters” for COVID-19. Find graphics for busted COVID-19 myths (ranging from: “Can shoes spread COVID-19?” to “Will drinking alcohol protect from COVID-19"), here on their site.

  •  There are currently no FDA-approved products to prevent or treat COVID-19. The FDA has issued many citations and warnings for products claiming to mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 in people.

  • While the FDA has temporarily suspended routine onsite facility inspections, food facilities are not off the hook for verifying their foreign suppliers during COVID-19. Since April, the FDA has issued 12 FSVP warning letters. Read more to see what issues these letters brought up!

Consideration for Modes of Travel.

This week, we have been focusing on recommendations for your employees’ travel. Having covered considerations based on the traveler’s personal health and destination and for essential and non-essential travel, today’s focus is on modes of travel.

Car.

  • If traveling alone, the risk of COVID-19 exposure is low. However, the risks of travel time and distance (fatigue, etc.) should also be considered.

  • Travel with another employee who is not already a close contact increases the risk of exposure. Prior to travel, employees should share exposure histories to determine any possible high-risk exposures before deciding to travel together.

Train.

  • If social and physical distancing cannot be maintained, this would be considered a high-risk exposure. While train seating often allows for adequate physical distancing, this cannot be guaranteed.

Air.

  • Traveling by commercial air may represent a high risk of exposure. It is difficult to maintain distance in airports and airplanes and airports contain many “micro-environments” that each have their own risk profiles (security checks, restrooms, restaurants, transit systems, etc.).

  • A 2003 study documented SARS-CoV (a virus similar to SARS-CoV-2) transmission on flights as short as 3 hours.
