Recent released research highlights that there is little association of climate (e.g. warmer temperatures, humidity levels) on coronavirus spread. However, restricting mass gatherings, school closures, and increasing social distancing were strongly associated with reducing the growth of the epidemic.
-
Watch the new CDC clip on “How COVID-19 Can Spread in a Community”. This video represents the April 8, 2020 CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report data (February – March 2020) and discusses community transmission that spread from two family gatherings in Chicago, Illinois. Large family gatherings (even now, with social distancing) can speed up community transmission.

Assessing the Risk of Renewed Travel.

With businesses beginning to develop the next phase of their recovery policies, TAG has been receiving questions pertaining to recommendations around travel authorizations and policies in order to decrease the potential of employees “bringing back” COVID-19 to the workplace.

Some considerations to consider would involve conducting a risk assessment based on specific factors, including the conditions and case levels of the geographic location and facility/ies to which the person is traveling, the means of travel, the people with whom the traveler would be interacting, the jurisdiction’s practices and restrictions, etc. As with many things about COVID-19, due to the myriad of factors, each travel event must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

The decision to mandate quarantine for employees after travel can be determined on a case-by-case basis based on the assessment. As part of the assessment, companies may also begin to consider the necessity of travel and essential nature of the person traveling, even raising questions such as, “If a 14-day quarantine is needed, how will this impact the business?”.

As much of TAG’s pre-COVID consultation work was conducted on-site at client facilities, we are also in the process of developing our own risk assessments and travel policies. We will be sharing much of this in this daily newsletter or the newly developed Return to Work (Recovery) Section of our subscription-based COVID-19 Toolkit. Give us a call for assistance or more information.
Outbreak Updates
As of May 12, 2020 (11:16 ET), there are over 4,410,000 cases (>287,000 deaths) worldwide.

Due to the increasing number of cases in the United States, TAG will move from reporting counts per country to focus on the United States, please see here for the data. For further information regarding worldwide numbers, please refer to John Hopkin University’s aggregate map.
